This ain't your Grandmother's china!

Truly.  These plates are from the dollar store....

But I do love how the lace gives a nod to good ol' Granny, while still managing to make these plates feel fresh and modern.

If you want to learn how to make these for next to nothing, read on....

Cupid's Arrows DIY

I certainly don't mean to be a LOVE Scrooge.  I don't have a problem with hearts in general, but around Valentines Day they seem to be a bit overdone.

A couple here and there, cute, but one heart too many and your house starts to look like a teenage girl's Trapper Keeper.

All of the other holidays are fairly adept at diversifying their symbols - Santa, reindeer, trees, turkeys, leaves, bunnies, eggs, chicks - except for Valentines Day.

So this year I'm taking a stand.   This year it's Cupid's arrows for me!  And of course, just a few hearts....

Let There Be Light

The other day my husband doubted me.  I know, right?! The nerve.  Actually he had been doubting me for months...

Don't worry, it wasn't the dramatic, marriage ending sort of doubt.  Just the maybe if I ignore her she'll stop making that stupid suggestion sort of doubt.

We both agreed that we needed to install a sconce in the kitchen above the table.  We agreed that it needed to happen soon because the Ikea clip lamp just wasn't cutting it.  We also agreed that the lights we loved weren't quite in the budget for now.

Commit to calm and cozy

I will sit on my comfortable couch and snuggle with my furry pets and my slightly less furry children and I will not feel guilty for not “DOING”.

I will allow my home to be my sanctuary, not my slave driver.

I will commit myself to cozy and calm, but I WILL NOT add it to my to-do list!

Rustic Lux Thanksgiving Table

Who here is tired of turkeys and pilgrims? I understand their relevance and I'm not suggesting we kick them to the proverbial Thanksgiving curb, but maybe just tone it down a bit.  This year I want a Thanksgiving that suggests autumn, family gatherings and getting back to our roots, but I also want it to be inviting and warm with just a touch of glimmer and glam.  Enter my Rustic Lux Thanksgiving table wish list.  This Thanksgiving table is rustic enough that you can comfortably put your elbows on the table and stay awhile, but it's the dash of glimmer and glow that will warm your heart and your skin tone.

Owl String Art DIY

Do you remember the 70's?

String art and macramé.  Holly Hobbie pajamas and the Bee Gees on vinyl.  All at the same time.

No?!?  Err, me neither....

For those that did experience string art the first time around, this project will bring back fond memories of moderately tacky yet cozy homes filled with shag rug, avocado appliances and, of course, string art.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, this modernized version will feel fun and fresh and you'll get a taste of what it was like in the good ol' days...
