Really? Radiant Orchid?

Every year Pantone comes out with the color of the year.

And every year I think, really?

And then every year the color starts to creep into home décor, and sure enough, I'm usually brainwashed, err.... persuaded into kinda liking it.

This year's color of the year is Radiant Orchid....really?!?

I've been searching for some orchid inspiration and thanks to the  Thistlewood Farms blog and KariAnne's link to orchid fabric ideas I finally found some!

Here're some tips to keep orchid classy

  • Orchid is best used in small doses and on accessories you can easily change if you tire of it - curtains, pillows, accent rugs.
  • Bedrooms are a great place to integrate orchid, but it also might be quite pretty if used minimally in a living area.
  • Navy and/or warm grays are my favorites to help keep orchid grounded
  • Brass accents warm up orchid and give it a little class

A more traditional use of orchid in the bedroom combines a warm gray color on the walls, a cream headboard and cream striped curtains, and dusty orchid beddingP.Kaufmann's Hip Berry fabric really pulls it all together as pillow sham fabric, or if you're feeling really adventurous, as curtain panels.

This more energetic use of orchid, and mix of patterns would be great for a guest room or teen room.  This orchid and navy chevron fabric can be used on a side chair, for pillow shams or as curtain fabric.  It is paired with navy bedding, an orchid area rug and brass accents.

So what do you think?  Have you been, um, persuaded?!?
